The DataVaults project is leading a new initiative within the Smart Cities Marketplace which itself is an activity supported by the European Commission that brings together cities, industry, small business (SMEs), banks, research and others.

The “Citizen Control of Personal Data” initiative will be launched on January 27th 2021. It seeks to foster a “European Approach” to controlling personal data, with the intention of utilising personal data for the benefit of society and the citizens themselves, as opposed to the narrower commercial interests of the large corporations. At the same time it will help grow the European data economy. It hopes to bring together all the initiatives and sister projects to share a common roadmap. Following the launch, workshops will be held to thrash out the work plan to achieve these ambitions.

The agenda and registration for the online launch can be found here. More information on DataVaults can be found on the project website.
