Obesity is closely related to metabolic risk factors and the risk of morbidity and mortality. The amount of fat in the abdominal cavity, liver, renal sinus and muscles is strongly associated with the presence and/or risk to develop metabolic abnormalities. In order to take action, the assessment of fat is fundamental, but it is not easy in the clinic and requires the use of expensive or imprecise methods and techniques.
A pilot demonstrator for the health sector within the BodyPass project, focused on obesity, is using the tools developed in the project to obtain reliable information on fat distribution from external 3D scan measurements which can reduce time to make decisions and costs.
In order to show the barriers that endocrinologists currently face and the benefits that would entail —in terms of diagnosis, treatment and follow-up— for health professionals and patients thanks to the use of the BodyPass tools, the project has created an animated video that you can watch here.
About the BodyPass project
The BodyPass project is an EU-funded initiative under the Horizon 2020 Framework Programme. BodyPass aims to break barriers between health sector and consumer goods sector and eliminate the current data silos. Its main objective is to foster exchange, linking and re-use, as well as to integrate 3D data assets from the two sectors.
